1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage. They help the site work, remember your choices, and let us measure traffic and (with your consent) show relevant advertising.
2. The categories we use
- Strictly necessary — needed for the site to function, including sign-in/session. These cannot be switched off.
- Functional — remember preferences such as recently viewed items and your cookie choice.
- Analytics — Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used, so we can improve it.
- Advertising — Google AdSense and partners to serve and measure ads on the free site.
3. Cookies in use
| Cookie / key | Provider | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Trade Caravan | Keeps you signed in | Necessary | Session |
| tc_cookie_consent | Trade Caravan | Remembers your cookie choice | Functional | Persistent (localStorage) |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Traffic measurement | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
| Google ad cookies | Google AdSense | Ad serving & measurement | Advertising | Varies |
4. Managing your consent
When you first visit, our banner lets you choose "Essential only" or "Accept all". Strictly necessary cookies always run because the site cannot work without them; analytics and advertising cookies are non-essential. You can clear the tc_cookie_consent value (or clear site data) in your browser to see the banner again and change your choice. You can also control cookies in your browser settings, opt out of personalised ads at adssettings.google.com, and manage third-party ad cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
5. POPIA & ECTA
We treat consent for non-essential cookies in line with POPIA, and our use of cookies is part of the privacy and security disclosures required under ECTA. For more on how we use the data we collect, see our Privacy Policy.
