Definition
The total greenhouse-gas emissions caused by a product, shipment, company or activity, expressed in tonnes of CO2-equivalent. In logistics it is typically calculated per shipment from distance, transport mode and fuel burned — sea freight emits far less per tonne-kilometre than air freight. Buyers in the EU and UK increasingly demand footprint data from South African suppliers for their own reporting and for regulations such as CBAM.
