Supply Chain & Warehousing

WMS (Warehouse Management System)

Supply Chain & Logistics Glossary — South Africa

Definition

Software that runs the inside of a warehouse: receiving, putaway, stock locations, picking, packing and dispatch, usually via barcode or RF scanning. It knows exactly what stock sits in which bin, directs workers along efficient pick paths, and feeds accurate stock figures to the ERP. The step up from spreadsheet-and-memory warehousing to a WMS is usually the single biggest accuracy gain a growing distributor makes.
